What Makes the CoolingX Shirt Different in Heat?

Most tactical shirts are built to survive abrasion first and manage heat as an afterthought. The CoolingX reverses that priority. Its torso uses a Sorona® and Ice-Ion fibre blend engineered to pull moisture away from the skin and spread it across the fabric's outer surface, where it evaporates. That is the mechanism that actually cools you — not the fabric feeling cold to the touch, but sweat leaving your body faster than it would through a conventional weave.

The shoulders and sleeves are a different fabric on purpose: DWR-treated ripstop. Those are the zones that carry pack straps and plate-carrier shoulders, meet walls and vehicle doors, and take rain first. Ripstop's reinforcing grid stops a snag from becoming a tear; the DWR finish makes light rain bead and run off rather than soak in and add weight.

Hardware is where cheap shirts fail quietly. The CoolingX uses YKK zippers and SBS closures on pockets and vents — the difference between a pocket that stays shut through a shift and one that snags open when you crouch.

How Does the Cooling Fabric Actually Work?

Your body cools itself by evaporation. Sweat on the skin absorbs heat as it turns to vapour; if the sweat cannot evaporate, the heat stays. A dense fabric that holds moisture against you defeats the process — you feel wet, heavy, and hotter as the shift goes on.

Sorona is a polymer fibre developed for elasticity and quick drying; Ice-Ion fibres are structured to transport moisture rapidly to the fabric surface. Blended, they move sweat outward and dry faster than cotton or standard polyester. The honest limit: this improves evaporation, it does not lower the air temperature. In very high humidity, where the air is already saturated, every fabric cools less — but a fabric that moves moisture still beats one that traps it.

The CoolingX is not flame resistant, and we say so plainly. If ignition is a realistic part of your work, the EmberX line is the correct choice even though it runs warmer. Buying a cooling shirt for a fire-risk job is a bad trade; so is buying a flame-resistant shirt for a job with no fire risk.

How Do You Keep It Performing?

The fabric's moisture movement depends on fibres that are not coated in residue. Wash it without fabric softener — softener clogs the structure that moves sweat. Avoid high-heat drying, which shortens the life of both the fibres and the DWR finish on the shoulders. When water stops beading on the ripstop panels, the DWR needs reapplying; it is a finish, not a permanent property. Treated this way, the shirt keeps doing its job for seasons rather than months.
